Best Headlight Restoration Methods
Most people are surprised to find out that headlight lenses are not made of glass, but rather plastic. Plastic headlights are safer and stronger, but the problem with them is that they can deteriorate over the years and get faded, yellow or discolored. This spoils the look of the car, but also reduces visibility during the nighttime to dangerous levels, and it can also get you a ticket.
But luckily, they can get restored and made bright and clear like they are brand new again. Thanks to the Diamond Clear Headlight Lens Restoration kit and the Diamond Clear Acrylic polish compound, we can restore just about any headlights at an affordable price for the client.
You can come by our shop at 3/42 Kayleigh Dr. Buderim so we can restore your headlights, or you can also get our kit and use it to restore boat windows, vinyl windows, acrylic skylights, aquariums, motorbike windscreen or other plastic or acrylic surfaces.
How Does Headlight Restoration Works?
For an experienced technician that has the right tools and knowledge, the process can be quite simple and be completed in a matter of 10 minutes. But for someone who is not familiar with this process it may be a bit trickier, and that’s why it’s best to get the help of a specialized company such as GT Glass Australia. We will get your headlight lenses restored to almost factory conditions.
The process has 3 phases:
Micro-Abrasive Resurfacing – it allows for effective removal of yellow and faded headlights, as well as the removal of road debris and corrosion caused by UV rays;
Diamond Clear Polishing – the materials we use in this phase will rejuvenate the acrylic lens and bring to almost its original condition, even if the car is very old;
Diamond Clear Protectant – the materials used in this phase will add an invisible layer of protection that will block the harmful UV rays, and maintain the clear lens for many years to come. This way you won’t have to be back too soon.
Headlight Restoration Steps
Start by cleaning the headlight lenses with a cloth soaked in warm water and a bit of washing liquid. Remove any dirt and debris and then dry with a microfiber cloth;
Mask the headlight area with plastic foil, so you won’t mess up the paint of the car;
Attach backing pad to drill;
Attach cushion pad;
Attach removal disc;
Begin resurfacing;
Remove cushion pad and apply polish pad;
Apply the acrylic compound on the pad;
Start polishing the headlight gently and cover all areas;
Clean the lens and then apply the UV protectant spray both on the soft disc and on the headlight;
Use the disc to polish the entire surface once again, and you are done.
You can watch an instructional video of the entire process here, but don’t worry because you don’t need to learn everything yourself. As long as you bring your car over, we will take care of the entire process and make your headlights like brand new again.
